How Do You Apply Flex Seal On Wood?

Now that you are well aware of the fact that flex seal is an excellent sealant coating product to be used on wood, the process of using it on wood might be your next query. Therefore, a step-by-step guide has been added below to explain you.

Prepare The Project Area:

Before you start applying Flex Seal, you must have an open and well-ventilated spot to do the job of applying Flex Seal on wood. That open and well-ventilated spot can be your garage but the door should be kept open.

Or you can simply use a room in your home with windows open and a ceiling/stand fan running.

You can apply Flex Seat outdoor as well but pick a dry day means there won’t be any rain, snow, or dew. And once you have got the perfect place, prepare it by covering the place with a drop clothing piece.

It’s because if you are about to apply Flex Seal on an entire wood piece, drop cloth will prevent the Flex Seal to go on unwanted spots.

Clean The Wood Surface:

In the next step, you must make sure that the wood surface where you are going to apply Flex Seal is absolutely clean. Thus, use a damp cloth and a cleaning solution to wipe any dust/dirt off the wood surface so that no dirt/dust speckle is there.

And if there is still any dirt/dust on the wood surface, sand the wood before applying Flex Seal. Moreover, sanding the wood surface will increase the ability of bonding for Flex Seal.

After cleaning and sanding down the wood surface, wipe the surface dry because Flex Seal works more effectively on the dry wood surface rather than a wet surface.

Spray Flex Seal:

Lastly, vigorously hake the can of Flex Seal for one minute, then aim the can’s nozzle at the wood surface, and at a sweeping pace spray Flex Seal from 8-12 inches distance.

Slowly spray it focusing on the cracks, gaps, and substantial surrounding spots around them.

First, apply the first coating of Flex Seal and wait for 24 hours to dry it, then apply the second coat and wait for 24 hours again to dry it fully.

Don’t apply the second coating of Flex Seal before the first is dried fully. As spraying on a tacky first coating will make you start again from the beginning.

How Long Does Flex Seal Take To Dry On Wood?

Basically, the drying time of Flex Seal on wood depends on two things, the weather (the temperature and humidity of the place where you have done the job of applying Flex Seal on wood) and the viscosity of the Flex Seal coating on wood.

If the temperature and humidity of the place are normal, as well as, you have applied a sufficient layer of the Flex Seal, it will take around 2-3 hours to dry on the wood surface.

But you have to give a Flex Seal coating at least 24 hours to cure completely. And if you apply two coatings of Flex Seal, it will take 48 hours in total to cure fully.
