8 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Clean Your Messy House

I must admit, cleaning is not the most fun activity that people want to do. Well, if you are like me, you need some serious motivation to clean your house.

As I was never the kind of person who cleans their house regularly, it took me a while to get used to it. I followed a few tricks which would lead me to clean even if I didn’t want to.

Motivation is a great thing that can make you want to do anything. You will need to find the purpose of doing a particular task.

I’ve been motivating myself to clean my house for such a long time; it has become a habit of mine to keep the house clean.

I wanted to share my motivations so that it can help you as well. The ultimate rule that I follow when it comes to cleaning is that I don’t take too much pressure.

You will feel tired and burdened whenever you will feel that “I must do this.” Well, you have other options as well. After all, life is just not about cleaning.

Turn on your favorite song

I never start cleaning my house without turning on my list of favorite songs. Whether you are using speakers or headphones, listening to the song while cleaning will make you feel good while cleaning.

You will not even realize that you are cleaning. It will make your tasks seem a lot easier and less tiring.

Set the timer to 15 minutes

My suggestion will be to set a timer before you start cleaning your house. You might be wondering, “why would I need a timer?”

Well, cleaning can seem very hard as it takes time. I used to keep my bed undone; my closet was completely a mess.

As a result, whenever I used to think about start cleaning them, I used to back off thinking that it will take hours to clean this mess.

I will always suggest you set a timer. A timer will help you to see how much you can do in a specific amount of time.

Also, you don’t need to clean every corner of the house in a single day. Take 15-30 minutes every day, and it will automatically become a habit.

Reward yourself after cleaning

It is one of the biggest motivations for me to clean my house. I used to promise myself, if I can clean my bedroom at least twice a week for a month, I will treat myself and my partner to my favorite restaurant.

Well, it helped me a lot. I used to tick the days on my table calendar whenever I cleaned my bedroom. Even if I got tired someday, I always made sure I’m cleaning my bedroom twice a week.

You can also make rewards for yourself whether it is a treat or a dress you have wanted to purchase. Rewarding yourself is one of the greatest motivations to clean a house.

Encourage your family members to clean the house with you

Well, who wants to work on weekends? But if your house has been messy for a long time, it is not possible for you to clean the house all on your own.

You can encourage your partner and your kids to do the cleaning with you. Make a plan to go shopping or watch a movie the next day as a reward.

Purchase new cleaning products

Who doesn’t love to use new products? If you buy a few cleaning products, it will motivate you to try them out as well as clean the house.

For example, you can try out a new mop, a good carpet cleaner, washing soda, etc. They will be useful in the future as well.

I’ve spent some money before committing myself to clean my house regularly. And it worked when I purchased these new products.

Wear comfortable clothes

If you are planning to clean your house for the weekend, you will probably do it for several hours. In that case, wear comfortable clothes.

Wear the most comfortable pair of shoes you have, make a ponytail, and get to work.

Don’t get me wrong, but I have separate clothes to wear while I clean my house. I love to clean, wearing my comfy t-shirt and sweatpants.

Don’t emphasize too much on being perfect

It is one thing that took me months to realize. When I started my habit of cleaning my house regularly, trust me, it was not all fun at the beginning.

I wanted everything to be perfect. If I could not finish work at my expected time, I used to go all crazy.
