Over painted walls:

The second thing to remember is to avoid applying too much pressure when applying the product as this may damage the paint finish. Third, always test the product on an inconspicuous part of the painting first to see if there is any adverse reaction to it.

Over old paint:

It is possible to apply Drylok over old paint. The best way to know if a product will work on a specific surface is to test it first before spraying it throughout the surface.

Drylok can go over which type of paint?

Over most types of paint, Drylok is safe to use. In any case, it is always advisable to test the product in an inconspicuous area first to determine if there are any adverse reactions. Drylok can be applied over cementitious waterproofing paint.

Drylok can be applied to latex, oil, and water-based paints:

Things to consider before applying Drylok over paint:

There are a few things you should consider before applying Drylok over paint. Below are some tips.

Avoid direct sunlight:

Drylok must never be used in direct sunlight or near an open flame. Electrical equipment should also be kept away from Drylok. Over time, direct sunlight and heat can cause the paint to fade or change colors.

If you are not careful, this can result in a discoloration of your beautiful wall treatment, which you don’t want to happen.

Ensure proper ventilation:

It is important to balance the air pressure and flow by reducing device settings when spraying Drylok outdoors and indoors. So, the room you are spraying in must be properly ventilated before you spray.

In case of failure, the toxins inside the can may be released into the atmosphere and could cause harm to others.

Test first:

Make sure you test Drylok on an inconspicuous area before you decide to use it on any surface. In this way, you will be less likely to damage your paint or create a mess during the painting process.

Make sure you follow these simple guidelines when using Drylok and you will be fine. Make sure you follow them when using Drylok.

Use as little pressure as possible:

You should use just the right amount of pressure and be gentle when spraying. Putting too much pressure on the paint can cause it to bead up on surfaces or cause it to skid. The result of skidding may result in a rough surface that is difficult to clean.

Make sure to wear a non-flammable mask:

It is essential to wear a respirator that is properly fitted with an approved filter, such as P100 or N95+, whenever you are applying Drylok. As a result, you will be protected from toxic vapors that may be released when the paint is sprayed.

How to paint Drylok over paint?

Drylok should be applied over existing paint using a low-pressure setting and gentle sweeping motions. Spray a light coat of Spray Adhesive onto the entire surface to be coated. Let it dry for at least an hour before applying additional coats.

These tips will make it very easy to paint Drylok over paint.

Use low pressure:

Spraying over existing paint requires a low-pressure setting. Overspray can result in an uneven finish and longer cleaning times.

Don’t drip:

To reduce dripping and possible damage, be sure to aim the spray nozzle carefully before releasing the trigger.

You should hold the can at a 45-degree angle from the surface you are painting so that the droplets will hit both sides of the object instead of being directed towards one side only.

Apply a light coat of paint:

It is not necessary to apply more paint than what is needed to cover the surface. It is important to apply a thin coat to prevent dripping and to guarantee a smooth finish.

Allow it to dry fully:

Allow the Drylok paint to completely dry before applying additional coats to ensure proper adhesion. When painting with Drylok, always wear a respirator that has been properly fitted.
